living it up in timboon

well I have settled in quite nicely into our new place in timboon. The house it close to town so that makes it handy for me and shakira to get things we need, without walking 14 ks lol. Anyway I have changed the name of my blog to footloose and fancyfree as a way of describing the way I live. I choose not to work fulltime so that I may enjoy my life doing all the things I want to and that are important to me. I spend my days walking and finding bush tucker; painting and drawing, im going to need a bigger place soon for all of my work. I am in the process of putting together a cook book of all my favourite dishes so that is keeping me very busy, I never realised how many folders worth of recipes and info that I have accumulated, so Ive been testing, tasting and loving working my way through.
Iam a keen gardener and am in the process of turning my empty spaces into food filled ones. Speaking of which I best get back out to it before the rain comes again, Im planting parsley, bok choy, raspberries and rainbow chard today and am so looking forward to watching everything grow<3

Todays post sees me sitting in front of the open fire(quite bizarre for december, but anyway) reading A diet for a new america, very thought provoking, and I think just as relevant to us here in Oz, where our food choices and the state of our health are just as bad as John Robbins discusses that America is.
I believe we all have to take responsibility for our own health and that of the planet's, by adopting at least a vegan if not raw diet we have the ability to put a stop to all this sensless distruction to this planet earth; our only home.
As John puts it in this book "The suffering that animals undergo has become so extreme that to partake of food from these creatures is to partake unknowingly of the abject misery that has been there lives. Millions are merrily eating away, unaware of the pain and disease they are taking into their bodies with every bite. We are ingesting nightmares for breakfast, lunch and dinner" This book should be a compulsory text at schools, our children are the next generation and we must educate them in a better way than we have been previously

planting the patch

Today has seen me busy preparing no dig beds then planting them up. So far Ive put in carrots, white and red radish, daikon, Saag (spinach like) parsley, rosemary, lemon balm and a heap of broccoli seeds.
I love the feeling of accomplishment after turning a plain patch of grass and weeds into a thriving patch of edibles. I have never used nor seen the benefit of blood and bone and such, i garden veganically using only my own made compost and letting mother nature take care of every thing else. There is nothing better than harvesting food that you have lovingly cared for.

raw vegan chia pudding

Oh my god I just made and scoffed down Averies chia pudding and can i just say it is so much better than i could have imagined. It reminds me of a dessert i enjoyed as a kid, sago pudding but this, this beats the stodgy cooked version any time. My next batch will include some lemon juice and finely sliced peel to giv it some tang. First though I will make her chocolate version it looks fantastic, so a big thankyou to an inspirational woman. Today sees me sorting and cataloging all my recipes into raw and non raw. This blog will be a space for me to share my views, product testing, restaurant reviews and reccommendations and all things vegan.
I started today with a swim and boogy then my dog and I enjoyed a punnet of timboon strawberries topped with creamy cashew cream (blend raw cashews with some water and vanilla bean), ahh a fantastic way to start the day.
A freshly squeezed pineapple and raspberry juice is just what i need now, so til next time; Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit and resign yourself to the influences of each"Henry David Thoreau"
